I used to be a very large man as my metabolism had ceased to work. At the advice of my doctors, I had bariatric sleeve surgery to buy me twenty years of life and twenty years of health. It was a simple procedure and I only missed two days of work and never needed any pain medication. I had been overweight since my mid elementary school years, so even though the weight seemed to melt off and I had lost it all in less than six months, I just didn’t trust that I could keep it off. I have now lost literally half of myself and it has been over seven years. I have always been a “real” ring wearer. Even so, I have been reluctant to have my gold rings sized down in the event I were to regain the weight. So I still have my gold rings (those with or without stones) locked in my dresser. So, to compensate I began shopping yellow gold rings and fake stones on Amazon. To date, I think I own nine. The interesting thing is, in my profession, I am usually sitting at a table with several family members writing contracts and signing a lot of paperwork. I think I have never been at our conference table with families I serve without at least one person complimenting the ring I was wearing at the time . . . I usually coordinate the stone in the ring with the basic color of the suit I am wearing. A few years ago when someone would compliment my ring, fearing they knew it was not an expensive ring, I would respond with something like, “Well, it’s not expensive – I got it on Amazon.” I will never forget one lady, in particular. I had noticed that she had diamond studded earrings and three or four diamond clad clusters on the rings on both of her hands. Upon my passing off her compliment, she said, “Sir, you should never take away from the compliment by placing a monetary value on it. It is an attractive ring, I would never know if that stone is genuine or not, and you are wearing it, so it obviously means something to you.” I took her advice. Since that time, I no longer discredit the value of the ring(s) on my hands. The size seems to run a little small when comparing to other rings of the same size from other companies, but being a former professional pianist, I like the ring to be a little snug once I get it over my knuckles so I don’t keep fighting to keep the stone on the upper part of my hand. Though not pure gold, no matter how long I have owned any of these rings, none have ever lost any color to the band nor turned green on my fingers. I recommend them highly.
