Meditation and Its Methods (Swami Vivekananda)

Category: Meditation
This book is a collection of Swami Vivekananda’s writings and lectures on meditation. It is more of an introductory book with plenty of inspiration passages to motivate a reader to adopt meditation for a better and peaceful life. Swami ji believed that meditation should be of a negative nature. Think away everything. Analyze everything that comes in the mind by the sheer action of the will. Next, assert what we really are existence, knowledge and bliss being, knowing and loving.

A wonderful read, some really good tips on how to create an ambient atmosphere to initiate meditation. Perhaps on of the greatest wise man to have walked in this planet in recent times. Wish there were more pages.

This is a wonderful book – helps to get young people on the path of meditation. Vivekananda is forceful and easy to understand. He encourages people to work in the world rather that run away to a monastery or mountain cave. And yet while working, producing and accomplishing their aims, he shows how not to get entangled in the world.

Nice book to motivate yourself to do meditation every single day.It describes you in brief the method of meditation and practices. Would love to have a full detailed book on swami vivekananda. He is my admirable person. Strength and mind power he achieved was only and only by meditation. It’s inspiring.

When I read that I was born on the same day of Swami Vivekananda, I could not believe my eyes. I can only imagine knowing him, I would have been his disciple for sure. There is no doubt that some Cosmic coincidence I share with the master. I do not know details on why he left his body so early at 39. He was intellectually exhausted. For those of you who have heard the word yoga many times before, it was Vivekananda the first person in the world who officially introduced yoga to the West. Other masters came after him, Yogananda was one of the most recognized figures, however, Vivekananda can show you in simple terms what is meditation by describing many terms, in how to be detached, the power of meditation as a science and the right time to meditate and why we must set aside everyday a space to achieve such state of bliss and purification of the mind.

Teaches how to meditate. Knowledgeable stories combined. I wish I read it soon after I was born. Highly recommend this book if you want to transform yourself.

Simple straight forward outlook on Vedanta.
Inspirational, insights into the origin of religions. Break down of the four Yogas conceptually.

Vivekananda é sempre excelente. Este livro não poderia ser diferente. É feito de pequenas, porém profundas lições, o que torna a leitura leve e muito enriquecedora. Ensina até mesmo como fazer um quarto ideal para meditação. Vale muito

Great book, but some of the translations and english grammar is off, and i question some of the logic has been transformed and strays from the meaning. I would say 85-90% of the book is correct but some points i question if Swami V said what was written or it was translated poorly.

Having read ” Gospel of Sriramakrishna- Abridged version”, was waiting to read the words of Swami Vivekananda, the most beloved disciple of Sriramakrishna. Came across the book and bought.
Two things about the book:
1. it is a hand book which contains only about 135 pages- but contains words of wisdom from an enlightened soul.
2. the actual price of the book is only Rs. 25/-, but the real value – priceless.
it doesnt deal with meditation in detail, but contains some serious learning’s.
Swami says ” Read only those books which have been written by persons who have had realization”- decided to follow the advise of a person who has had self realisation.
After reading this handy book, there is a desire to read – the Complete works of Swami Vivekananda which has got 8 volumes.
But swami himself has said that mere book knowledge elevates you intellectually, but not spiritually.
In the words of his guru- Granthas are sometimes granthis- that which binds you…….
