This book is very assertive I was impressed how it describes myself and the engaging that it is, i finished reading it in a short period it was the first book I read this year and I will definetely continue reading books from this author.
Thanks Judy Dyer ✨
Dr. Eileen Quinn Knight –
The first question, we the reader, need to ask is what is an empath? An empath is a person with an open spirit; they unconsciously sense things in the unseen and the seen realm to the point where it can become a burden. Empaths pick up on the energy of the people that surround them. They have a natural ability to tune into the feelings of others. Empaths intuitively know the intentions and motivations of others. An empath is born that way.
The author continues with characteristics of the empath. She feels that empaths are extremely humble, they shy away from compliments and would rather praise someone else than receive it. They open up to anyone who will listen. Similar to the characteristics of the middle child, the empath is non-aggressive, non-violent and is quick to become the peacemaker between people. The inability of the empath to express their feelings is the result of a traumatic event, as a child they are told that children need to be seen but not heard.
Empaths need to learn to talk things out as humans are wired to express themselves when they feel a burden, it is how healing takes place. Empaths have a sensitivity toward movies, TV. Videos, and news broadcasts that depict scenes of violence or physical or emotional pain and trauma. Empaths work in careers that enable them to help others whether it’s with animals, nature or people. They are passionate about their work and their dedication o others. You will often find empaths in volunteer positions dedicating their time to help others without pay or recognition. On pages 8-9, the author delineates the different kinds of empaths. She also gives the common empaths traits on pages 10-15.
Dyer offers some helpful tips to assist the reader in fully embracing your gifts: appreciate and honor your state of consciousness; identify the difference between thought consciousness and emphatic consciousness; and trust in intuition. There are many things that can be done when you learn to effectively handling energy. It is the divine right of the reader to learn how to navigate this powerful terrain of energy so that you can use it in a way that benefits you, the reader, and others.
The book has some wonderfully interesting sections to ponder. As the author states: “There is much more to being an empath than what you have read in this book. It is a good jumping off point to people who identify themselves as empaths. Dyer has specific things to do to improve the life of the empath. At 92 pages, it has a great deal of information and direction forward.

I could not understand why I felt the way I did or what I thought was the tangled threads of my life. I now understand it is a gift and more…to find out I am also a Heyoka Empath was a revelation. Wonderful guidance and advice on developing this gift in a spiritual direction. Thank you Judy and blessings 🙏🏼

I am empathic and so is my child. The book has helped us to put into practice practical ideas to help keep and restore our energy. And we also continue to help those around us with the useful ideas to send positive energy out into the world. I appreciate all help and encouragement with the gift of being an empath. The path is challenging but I also see where it is pure Joy. Thank you Judy Dyer your work is important and crucial during these uncertain times. Just recently I spoke to an old friend whom I have not heard from in 4 years. I would send her loving letters as her husband died several years ago. When we first connected she said to me. “I did not understand your letters until now. You have no idea how much they helped me through my grief. Now I understand them. And Thank you.” There are times I am drained and just done. You have helped me realize how to put up the boundary. I need to remember to hold my energy better for myself. And continue to be who I am meant to be… Empathic. xo The Clarity is Empowering!

Empath: A Complete Guide for Developing Your Gift and Finding Your Sense of SelfPaperback – November 28, 2017by Judy Dyer (Author) is a great insight into inherent Empathic abilities or traits in some people. As Mrs. Dyer very clearly articulates, many famous actors, and other prominent personages re in fact Empaths. Oddly, according to some very highly educated and well-regarded Mental Health professionals at places like the US Department of Veterans Affairs, for instance, Empaths do in fact exist, and as described by Mrs. Dyer in this book do supposedly meet the criteria for such DSM-V diagnosis’s as bi-polar disorder, but are not bi-polar but in a different category all unto themselves….????
Interesting, as this in in keeping with such film as “American Ultra”- available at Amazon.com and books like “Operation Paperclip” by Annie Jacobsen per her book’s index on pages 302,371 and 449 and also available at Amazon.com, as would not Empaths be more than perfect test subjects of all sorts of scientific research into the “boundaries” of the human mind???? This is sort of reiterated in books like “Ley Lines of the UK and USA: How Ley Lines were used by the Church, Royalty, City Planners and the Freemasons” Paperback – June 12, 2014” by David Cowan (Author), Anne Silk (Author) where the authors cite US Military utilizing “dowsing” rods in the US Vietnam War and available at Amazon.com as well as various internet sites. Additionally, in “Dowsing for Beginners: How to Find Water, Wealth & Lost Objects” (For Beginners (Llewellyn’s)) Kindle Edition by Richard Webster (Author) at Amazon.com, on page-87 cites “In the First World War, dowsers found water for the troops in the desert, The Germans used dowsers to follow the movements of British warships during the second World War.” This makes one wonder if this was not in fact under the direction of the German “Ahnenerbe,” which there is great amount of information available on internet, like Wikipedia, and other books at Amazon.com, as would not the German Military at the time, or many others employing dowser’s want people highly in tune with not only other people but “nature” itself, such as Mrs. Dyer so greatly describes in this book????
Additionally, per author “The Paradigm: The Ancient Blueprint That Holds the Mystery of Our Times” Hardcover – September 19, 2017 by Jonathan Cahn (Author) the author assert’s, for example on pages 50-51 of his book that fascination this sort of topic or topics(?) even extend into the US White House, under the Clinton Administration, with such personalities as “Jean Houston” whom author on page-50 asserts “was one of most prominent new age leaders in the world.” This, makes one think additionally, of other things like the various claims several US Presidents are “genetically” linked back to the English “Royal Family.” And hence, further makes one think that through the “ages” if Empaths were in fact not sought after as “oracles” or “priest’s” or even “law-givers” and trusted with items like the biblical breast plate of the high-priest of the Temple and its numerous stones or gems with various “mystical properties”- see for example “Twelve Breastplate Stones: The Twelves in Scripture” (Time Book 14) Kindle Edition by Gael Bataman (Author), Kazi Tsadaka (Editor), David Bataman (Photographer) and the search for DNA blood-lines, such as in books like “Jesus’ Family Tree: Seeing God’s Faithfulness in the Genealogy of Christ” Kindle Edition by Rose Publishing (Author) to hopefully, perhaps finally or once again “unlock” the hidden or occulted? (Also see perhaps Star of David Silver and Gold plated Mezuzah hoshen stones. 3.5 Inches and comes with The priestly breastplate by Holy Land Market at Amazon.com)
Once again, would not Empath’s, as Mrs. Dyer describes them, in fact be ideal candidates in today’s age for perhaps such an endeavor, like the legendary “Sword In the Stone” of King Author legend…were only a true descendant could pull the sword from the stone????? Anyway, makes one wonder, and has not science and technology finally, perhaps reached the point that “unlocking” mysteries scientifically is more than possible???
On page 24 Mrs. Dyer, discusses the Mediumistic capabilities of Empath’s under “Chapter 3 Understanding Energy.” Additionally, in this Chapter she discusses the importance of the “sun” and “Earth” in coping with Empathic abilities among other things. This leads one to wonder if Empath’s might also be better assisted with understating “astronomy” with such books available at Amazon.com as “NightWatch: A Practical Guide to Viewing the Universe Hardcover”-spiral – September 12, 2006 by Terence Dickinson (Author), Adolf Schaller (Illustrator), Timothy Ferris (Foreword) and books on Astrology like “Modern Astrology: Harness the Stars to Discover Your Soul’s True Purpose” by Louise Edington | Nov 13, 2018 at Amazon.com as well.
Anyway, perhaps a good and “inexpensive” test Empathic abilities is in fact “dowsing” and dowsing rods, such as “Copper Dowsing Rods with Bag and Booklet” by It’s Your Journey , also at Amazon.com. At one shot, this would test multiple “energy” sources and Empath could possible tap into, without even perhaps knowing themselves????? Hopefully, Mrs. Dyer, in perhaps future works will explore something along this avenue as well as integration of “scientific” disciplines such as modern medicine, biology, physics, engineering disciplines and psychology/psychiatry into a full body of no longer “occulted” inherent human abilities-traits?????
In conclusion, this is a beyond good introduction into the “exploration” and “understanding” of human empathic abilities, but falls somewhat short on “science” thus the 4-Star Rating awarded.

Really enjoyed reading this book. Felt like I was reading about myself. Was never bored. To be honest, I could barely put it down. Loved the examples of how to ground myself. The part on spiritual hypersensitivity was interesting and helpful. Insomnia, exhaustion, adrenal fatigue and anxiety – little did I know these are all symptoms of my gift. Yoga poses for each chakra was helpful.
I have loads of books to read next, but now I want to order another one of Judy’s books – The Highly Sensitive or The Empowered Empath as I enjoyed this book so much.
So glad my intuition guided me to this book and that my intuition guided me to choose this one to read out of the other 50 brand new books I have at home.
Highly recommend this if you are an empath or think you might be an empath.

Very informative and helpful! An excellent guide book for empaths!
Izzy Talavera –
I liked this book because of the topic which is one that is not one spoken of very much.
I wish I had this knowledge when I was growing up! Having said that, as an adult who is an Empath, this book first confirmed and validated the fact that yes I am an Empath which I’ve been told, but never understood.
The second thing this book really helped me to understand was just how to deal with living life as an Empath. For the longest time I couldn’t help but wonder what is wrong with me, or am I even cursed? That’s how different growing up being an Empath can be.
This book gives many useful ways (practical ways) on not only how to get through life being an Empath, but also thriving and even helping others, if you’re called to do so.
Additionally, there is the FB group which I’ve just joined and has already been an invaluable tool to not only be around other like minded individuals, but to also learn additional skills and build lasting friendships!
I don’t normally write reviews, but this is a topic that is so near and dear to me that I couldn’t help but to give back not only to the author, Judy Dyer, but to any other Empath unsure if this book is for them. I can assure you that it is all that and much more.

A very thoughtful, well written, and easy to follow primer for new and developing empaths. I found the book well worth the investment. For anyone interested in developing their natural abilities, this would be a terrific way to start. It would also be a great book for anyone looking for a refresher.

This was an interesting book, not sure what I was getting into, my search started around divorce, this seemed interesting and got me thinking on a new level. The take away I got is life is about energy, we all have it, we all have subconscious instincts allowing us to sense and send energy in social situations. The personality type talked about Empath, is more in tune with this understanding but everyone gets it to a degree. What I liked about this book are the lessons and advice on how to channel and manage your energy and having the power to tune out negative energy when sensed from people around you in social situations. Provides a smart approach to dealing with social anxiety by fully understanding and managing your own energy with the ability ti filter out the negative. Also good point on making a habit to not hold on to negative energy which we tend to do when dealing with undesirable situations as it just holds us back and best to deal with it and put it behind. So this entire concept of having energy bandwidth, up to us how we want to use it and if we get it right our lives can be significantly simplified and more in tune with the physical world we live in. That was my take away, I thought some of the oils and stones were a bit lofty but overall a good read.

The thing I loved about this book the most is that I felt connected to everything that was being said on every page. Some of the topics that were written are things that I have known or have been touched on before, still I enjoyed it. Judy Dyer does a phenomenal job introducing the life of an empath on several levels. Such a refreshing piece of work that any empath would benefit from reading. This book accompanied with Judy’s other book, The Empowered Empath (which I am about to start reading), are very easy to read and great finds. I happened to stumble upon this book while looking for filmmaking books. Call it fate or call it what you will. Definitely something worth reading and considering if you have known you are an Empath or feel things you can’t explain and just know. This book may change your life in a positive, self-accepting, and self-loving way. I am grateful.
