The first thing to know is that the mineral cinnabar is the main ore that we get the heavy metal mercury from, mercury sulphide. That being said, it is completely safe to wear, just avoid cracking the beads and do not wear it when sweating or exposing it to any prolonged moisture. Do not store it where it’s exposed to sunlight, such as near a window, as heating it up too much releases mercury vapour, but wearing it for the day in the sun is fine, again just take it off if you’re sweating a lot. Cinnabar is also a soft mineral at 2.5 on the mohs scale so please don’t scratch it deliberately and take care of it.
Mineralogy warning aside, I absolutely LOVE my bracelet. It feels like a very well made stretch bracelet and the beads are beautiful; both the carved guardian and spherical beads look and feel high quality. The small gold tone spacer beads give the bracelet a sense of elegance, and the agate bead has a lovely shade depth to it.
The cinnabar grade looks to be “purple-gold sand” in hue which is around 90% in stone purity, which is on the higher quality end, though it is a bit more red in hue than my cinnabar bangle, which is a little more purple.
The beads, under the sun or flash, do have a lovely sparkly reflect which lends credence to the bracelet being genuine cinnabar rather than a fake being labelled as cinnabar. It fits me well, I have approximately a 7” wrist.
It comes with a lovely red pouch and a sparkly box, as well as two small scrolls and a small fulu card. I am year of the rat and I have a bracelet that corresponds to that.
