BulkSupplements offered me a free product in return for an honest review. Many of their offerings I either wasn’t familiar with or the serving size /dosage was too precise to measure accurately and easily. As I was looking for something to throw into a smoothie without being concerned if it was too much or too little, this fit the bill. Also, I was looking for a superfood or combo to replace another big name superfood I’ve taken for years, but feel I’ve been priced out at over $2/oz. This product fit the bill perfectly and arrived sooner than expected, and I’ve since bought the larger size. The powder taking it aside from a smoothie mixes easily with just water and doesn’t taste bad, despite some of the other reviews. I’ve been reading about all the benefits of chlorella and should have been taking this years ago. As to noticeable benefits, too soon to tell. Possible heightened mental clarity, which is desperately needed. I could be imagining it, but lets wait a while and see. Very pleased with the product, and maybe will add a follow-up note down the road.

I like the way I feel after drinking chlorella. Its like a mild, sustained boost of energy. Nowhere like a caffeine buzz–its more of a healthy feeling–like I just fed my body 100% goodness. That said, this thing smells like a swamp.
I have finally gotten used to the flavor thanks to adding a million other things to my smoothies. But I can see how some people might not like it. Also, be careful because the super fine powder gets EVERYWHERE lol! It stained one of my cloths even after throwing it in the wash.
I always buy Bulk Supplements brand because its the real deal–fresh, potent, and I trust that the product is actually what it is instead of filler or weird stuff. Be aware they import from China, so do your research before you buy any specific supplements from them, bit since chlorella comes from Asia originally I figure its good.

I’ve been using Chlorella (from a wide range of suppliers, although there’s not such a wide range of growers, so many may come from the same source) for at least 10 years.
The 1KG pack of chlorella from bulk supplements comes at a great price, especially with Amazon’s free shipping.
I have been using this product for the past three weeks, or so, and have no issues with it. It does have a slightly stronger taste than some brands of chlorella I have tried, but by the time it’s mixed into my morning smoothie, I don’t notice it.
>> NEW TO CHLORELLA ? <<
If you’re new to chlorella, and food-based algae in general, be forewarned that it has a distinct, relatively strong, and “green” taste to it. Experience tells me that for most people chlorella is best mixed into something that will mask the taste. If you are particularly sensitive to strong swampy smells/tastes, it may be better to go with chlorella tablets.
I prefer the powder myself, but I know it’s not for everyone. If you’ve never tried chlorella powder, and you are curious, I recommend getting a small amount at first. Mixed it into a smoothie, including a ripe banana (organically grown if possible). You might like to use organic apple juice as the liquid. These will do a fairly good job of improving the taste of the chlorella.
Start out with just a half teaspoon of chlorella powder, so the taste is not overwhelming. Add more to your liking, as you get accustomed to it.
>> WHAT ABOUT SPIRULINA ? <<
I will mentioned spirulina here because over the years I’ve seen many people asking what the difference is, and wondering whether to use one, or the other, or both.
If you are going to try spirulina,iIt is also worth considering Hawaiian Spirulina.
Chlorella and spirulina are similar (both are algae) and yet each unique in their own way. The taste of (Hawaiian) spirulina is likely to be more palatable for people than chlorella. My preferred spirulina (after using it for over 22 years) is this one: Nutrex Hawaii Hawaiian Spirulina Pacifica Powder, 16-Ounce Bottle. Chlorella has a higher iron content than spirulina. If you are taking an iron supplemnet, you may need to consider reducing it (or stopping it) when using chlorella. It will all depend on your particular situation though, so these are just general pointers.
You don’t wan to take in too much iron, so don’t overdo it on the chlorella. Most people can, therefore, get away with taking much higher amounts of Spirulina than they can chlorella. I used about 2 heaped tablespoons of spirulina each take, and about two teaspoons of chlorella.
I suggest using both. Each have their own distinct nutritional profile and will prove to be a great supplement to your regular diet. Between the two of them, you’ll be giving your body pretty much every nutrient it needs to function (although not necessarily in the full amount you need, depending on how much you use each day).
>> BENEFITS <<
I can’t really make this review about the long list of benefits of chlorella, as then it’s not really a review any more. What I will at least say is that chlorella is a super-food, which means it is very nutrient dense. A little chlorella equates to a lot of most common foods you might otherwise eat, in terms of nutritional content. It is also reported to help the body eliminate toxins, including mercury. It will help the body maintain a health acid/alkaline balance (most people are too acidic, and chlorella may help to bring that into balance). Eating more than half a decent tablespoon of chlorella each day is like to have noticeable effects, such as more energy, clearer head/mind, reduced appetite, less food cravings, less need for coffee and stimulants, etc. It is reported to help open up the circulation in the body, resulting in greater cellular oxygenation. It is also well known as a detoxifier of the digestive system. It is especially high in Vitamin A, Vitamin K, Folic acid, Vitamin B2, Manganese, and Iodine.
Give it time… it may take a few weeks of daily use for the effects to become noticeable.
>> PURITY ? <<
My only concern with the Bulksupplements.com chlorella is I have little, if any, real idea of their source and its purity. The chlorella product page on their website says nothing about the source of this product. This concerns me, and is why I give it four stars and not five. Bulksupplements.com does not come across to me as a company with a strong company ethic around “holistic” and “natural”. If you are concerned about the source of your super-foods and supplements, you might want to consider using a chlorella that is certified organic. The one I normally buy is this one: NOW Foods – Chlorella Pure Powder Certified Organic – 1 lb.. I have used this one for a number of years, and have no issues with it. I bought the Bulksupplements.com product to compare because it was a good price and in a bulk amount (I got 1kg of it for travelling).

Pros:
Energy & Focus: I’ve noticed a significant, steady improvement in my daily alertness and overall resilience since incorporating this into my routine.
Pure & Organic: This powder is non-GMO and organic, providing a clean source of over 85 trace minerals and antioxidants without unnecessary fillers.
Broken Cell Wall: The fact that the cell walls are broken is critical for ensuring your body can actually absorb the nutrients.
Exceptional Value: Like most BulkSupplements products, the price per serving is unbeatable compared to pre-packaged capsules.
Cons:
Intense Flavor: It has a very strong, “grassy” or “seaweed-like” taste that takes time to get used to.
Messy Powder: Because it is so finely milled, it can be a bit messy to scoop without getting green dust on your counter.
Detailed Performance
I started using this Chlorella primarily for its heavy metal detox properties and to support my immune system. While it’s hard to “feel” a detox happening, I can certainly feel the boost in my circulatory health and general energy levels.
For those worried about the taste, I recommend mixing it into a fruity smoothie with a banana or pineapple to mask the earthy notes. It dissolves reasonably well in liquids, though you may see some minor clumping if you don’t use a blender or a whisk. As a daily supplement, it has become a high-value staple for my wellness journey, providing essential B vitamins and iron that are often missing from a standard diet.

I just put a spoonful in my mouth and add water – it tastes great – I was expecting something far worse – but that must be other, cheaper suppliers of Chlorella. I bought the 2.2 lb (1 kg) Chlorella made by Bulk Supplements b/c I trust their brand and packaging. YES – it was $14 more than the cheapest equivalent brand also found on Amazon – but it was worth it. I read the negative taste & smell tests for the cheaper version – and decided to spend more $$’s to get this Chlorella from Bulk Supplements. And I am VERY HAPPY with the product – I would recommend it – and wanted to tell anyone else interested that paying more for this is worth it in my opinion b/c the taste was very pleasant! Of course, I’m vegan and used to all sorts of bitter and intense flavors – so your experience might be different.
Lastly, I seem to notice that 1 spoonful of this does completely shut down my appetite – since I like to keep the weight off – I was pleasantly surprised at how filling this feels. It completely stops any feeling of hunger and seems to fill me right up! No other side effects noticed. I did read that clinical tests show that Chlorella will INCREASE Liver Bile Production – thereby getting Cholesterol out of the blood stream and into the Fecal Stream. I also take Phytosterols – also from Bulk Supplements – to help get the Bile Salts out of my body. I have familial hypercholesterolemia so I take a Statin and try to get that extra 10% reduction in LDL by taking beta sitosterol also from Bulk Supplements (which blocks Bile Salt reabsorption in the colon).

On occasion, I would encounter digestive issues and bloating. No matter how I would eat, it would be an issue and could be frustrating. When I heard of this product, I thought it was worth trying. When it arrived, it was not visually appealing. It was a dark blue, fine powder and it didn’t smell very good. I know that I didn’t want to mix it with water because I knew it would look and taste like something out of an algae infested pond. I actually make smoothies in the morning and decided to add the recommended dosage to one. Even though I mix it with fruits and vegetables, I still get a little of the pond taste, but it is tolerable. After taking it this for a few days, I feel a tremendous improvement in my digestion and the bloating is virtually gone. I will definitely continue buying this as well as other products from BulkSupplements. This company sells an excellent product at a great price.

I ordered this product after watching videos online regarding detoxing recipes to use with my Ninja blender. I read about all the great benefits of adding Chlorella to your diet and was excited to try it. I’ve already seen so many great benefits. My Mom came down with a really bad cold and I made her Chlorella shakes with 1 mango, 1 peach, 1 bannana, 1 cup of coconut water and 1 Tbsp of Chlorella. Her cold dissipated in 3 days. I was sold after that. In myself, I noticed increased energy in the morning after I switched to taking my shake around 6 pm when I get home from work. I usually drag out of bed and hit the snooze more than once. Now, I spring up like a chicken…literally. My nails seem to be ‘brighter’ like they’re more healthy and my skin has a ‘make-up’ like glow and I don’t wear foundation. Now this next part might be a bit gross, but hey…these are my results. lol. I really enjoy a good, clean bowel movement (sorry guys, lol) This stuff makes you feel like you’re THOROUGHLY cleaning your colon of all that built up waste every time you take a poo. I’ve not experienced any diarrhea or upset stomach at all. Just very substantial ‘poo’ when I go. lol. Like you feel like a snake is making it’s way down your intestines. AMAZING! (Hey! I’m weird like that lol) I can’t vouch for any other brands of Chlorella, their potency or pureness because this was the only brand I’ve tried. I found them by doing a search for ‘the best chlorella brand’ and BulkSupplements was in the list. I loved this product and will definitely be adding this to my healthy regimen.

I became sensitized to the corn derived components of my supplements and medications. (If you think you’re not ingesting GMO corn with “corn free” supplements, think again. You can google “corn allergy” and find a list with some 900 hidden ingredients like even magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose and hundreds more). This manifested as pain in not just arthritic joints, but pain in the bones themselves. So I went to using food grade supplements in pure form. This one was provided to me free of cost by bulksupplements after I ordered three others, which I have reviewed elsewhere. I used to take pHion’s powder and it was pretty intense. This is too. Also used to take Mercola’s broken cell chlorella as well by the handful. I am surviving on organic juice which I do myself in my Omega. In juice you don’t even know it’s there, but you sure do feel it. Much brain fog has lifted and because I am severely anemic it helps a lot to increase my ability to keep hypoxia away. Good product.
