An unabridged audio of Dr. Judith Orloff’s guide for 365 days of self-care meditations, reflections, and journaling suggestions as daily inoculations against stress and overwhelm
Empaths have so much to offer as healers, creatives, friends, lovers, and innovators at work. Yet highly sensitive and empathic people often give too much at the expense of their own well-being—and end up absorbing the stress of others. “To stay healthy and happy,” writes Dr. Judith Orloff, “you must be ready with daily self-care practices that work.” With Thriving as an Empath, she provides an invaluable resource to help you protect yourself from the stresses of an overwhelming world and embrace the “gift of being different.”
If you want daily tools to put into action, this unabridged audiobook is for you. Building on the principles Dr. Orloff introduced in The Empath’s Survival Guide, this book brings you daily self-care practices and support for becoming a compassionate, empowered empath, including:
Setting strong boundaries
Protecting your energy
Inoculating yourself against stress and overwhelm
Self-soothing techniques
Knowing that it is not your job to take on the world’s stress
Breaking the momentum of sensory overload
Tapping the vitality of all four seasons and the elements
Deepening your connection with the cycles of nature
Moving out of clock-based time into “sacred time”
Thriving as an Empath was created to help you grow and flourish without internalizing the emotions and pain of others. “These self-care techniques have been life-saving for me and my patients,” writes Dr. Orloff. “I feel so strongly about regular self-care because I want you to enjoy the extraordinary gifts of sensitivity—including an open heart, intuition, and an intimate connection with the natural world.”

I run a group on Facebook called “Attitude of Gratitude with Chronic Pain,” and I purchased this book not only for myself, but because so many of our members identify as EMPATHS. I wanted to be able offer strategies to not take on “the weight of the world” as many of us do. The Moderators of the group each purchased a copy after I sent them a few readings, and we study and discuss each day’s and all of the ‘a-ha’ moments that come along with each one. And let me tell you, those ‘a-ha’ moments are daily! We are absolutely IN LOVE with this book!
I do a weekly live broadcast called, “Gratefully Living the Chronic Life” where each week is a different topic pertaining to living with purpose and fulfillment while dealing with chronic pain/illness. I have shown and referenced this gem of a book more times than I can count because they pertain to that week’s topic.
For many of us, we have been told all of our lives that we’re “over sensitive.” I certainly have! Thanks to “Thriving as an Empath” I now look at my deep feelings as a superpower and something to be proud of rather than embarrassed about! Judith’s writing is thoughtful and uplifting for people like us! And although our empathy is not something to hide, she shows us ways where we can still keep our feelings and not taking on everyone else’s feelings too. People living with physical and emotional chronic pain cannot afford to take on the feelings of the rest of the world.
Thank you, Judith, for the gift of your writing and insight! It has been a complete game-changer for my Moderators and I and I cannot wait to spread more to the entire membership! I am NOT over-sensitive! I feel things deeply and that is not going to change! Thank you for offering your strategies on living peacefully and with balance.
Buy this book! You will not be sorry.

This is one of the best books I have ever read. Highly recommend for ANYONE who is an empath. Reading this book is like looking into a mirror. Dr. Orloff truly understands what it’s like to live as an empath and her inspiring and practical information provided is incredibly meaningful and helpful in your everyday life. She emphasizes on embracing our gift and giving us awareness that we aren’t alone with this journey. I also love that it’s broken up into 365 days of reading which is just perfect – Not too much to absorb all at once and allows me to focus more on the information provided each day.

I really enjoyed reading this book each day for the last year because it was helpful. Each day the author gives a different teaching which may not apply to the reader on that day, but it may be relevant later which is what I found. There were some great lessons in this book which were very helpful to me which really helped me in my life. I’ve recommended this book to many people, especially those in customer service. I noticed in the audio version there were two days missing, but they were in the Kindle book. This review is for both at once.
March 28th is missing from the Audiobook.
May 13th is missing from the Audiobook.

So many great ways to create greater awareness, happiness and joy and truly embracing being a sensitive empath in the world. Thank you Judith.

The book is just what I thought it would be and is a nice hard cover book to read over and over 365 days a year. However, Amazon put it in a larger box with just one of those plastic bag thingies that have air inside of them, which BTW I’ve seen burst open on route, so they’re basically USELESS to prevent damage.
Thus, the book had ONE slightly bent corner due to it’s being jostled about in a box with nothing to prevent it from getting banged around. Amazon, USE BUBLE WRAP OR BETTER PACKING MATERIAL FOR YOUR SHIPMENTS AS I’M TIRED OF GETTING DAMAGED GOODS FROM YOU. WHY SHOULD I PAY YOU TOP DOLLAR FOR DAMAGED GOODS? NEW ITEMS OUGHT TO ARRIVE IN ‘NEW CONDITION’ NOT BANGED UP!

Whether you are an empath or sensitive person or going through a time of need, starting each day with a gentle reminder and explanation of our need for intentional acts of self-kindness has been a lifesaver for me and welcomed by those with whom I have shared.

Judith Orloff is a respected leader in the field of psychiatry and, really, the author you want to read if you’re an Empath or Highly Sensitive Person (HSP). I’ve read nearly all of Dr. Orloff’s books, so I pre-ordered this book and its companion journal. I really got a lot out of “The Empath’s Survival Guide” and was looking forward to this new book. Thriving as an Empath is formatted as a Date Book. It’s not exactly meant to be read straight on through like her other books. Instead, this gives a dose of inspiration / help every day of the year. You can use it in a few suggested ways. First, you can open it to the date you’re starting the book, and read one page daily for a whole year. Second, you can use it as a bit of an oracle – if you have a question or problem that you need some insight or perspective on, think about the question, then open the book to any random page, read that page, and reflect on how that might provide commentary on your situation.
This is really a great book if you’re an Empath. If you’re not sure if you are one, go to her website and there’s a self-test you can take. Empaths have some unique and special traits, and also some interesting challenges. This book can help with both – celebrating what is awesome about being an Empath, while helping to work with the challenges to create a good life for yourself.
I met Dr. Orloff in person during her book tour for this book, and she is an engaging author and person. She is an intuitive empath herself and really brings topics to life, both on the page and in person. I was lucky enough to have her sign my copy of this book. This book is one that I am very glad to have. If you’re looking for a book that you can read straight through, and get a lot of information about Empaths and what you can do to survive and take control of your powers, I recommend her previous book, “The Empath’s Survival Guide.” This book, “Thriving as an Empath” is no less great, but is in a date book format, which may not be what you are looking for. I have both, and I’m very happy with them.

I love this book! Sometimes self-care can feel overwhelming. Empaths have specific needs, and prioritizing those needs on a daily basis can be tough. This book clearly explains useful strategies to support yourself. One specific task is described on each page for every day of the year. I read each day’s entry at night before I go to bed. Each one is concise and powerful, with enough description so that I understand how to put the strategy into action but not so much detail that I feel like I’m doing homework at the end of a long day. Uplifting and manageable daily resource for empaths.

I don’t like this book I LOVE this book. It explains, me and my brother’s uniqueness.
I read it most days to give me permission , to say no , to too much togetherness, too much talking, too much intrusion, too much environmental intrusion as well; such as noisy restaurants ( yikes )
Too much TV noise, music, even the loud vent noises from showers, stove fans. You name it, anything that makes too much noise. I love my ability to relate to animals, turtles, birds, frogs, dogs, cats, fish. Even hard to like humans that are unhappy, or ones severely deformed in their speech and physically as well. It feels good to me to relate to someone who is crying out for contact but struggles mightily to do so with others. This books gives me permission to isolate for short times, from others , even though I am an extrovert. Thank You Judith Orloff you are a blessing !
