a reader –
I was already a fan of Melody Beattie when I bought this book. Codependent No More was an important book in my life and I have used The Language of Letting Go as a meditation book (and still sometimes do). This book bears the mark of everything I appreciate and respect about Melody Beattie’s work and is a continuation of many of the same themes she has written about elsewhere. But it also moves beyond the issues of codependency into a more life-as-adventure perspective. I find that the meditations are extremely helpful for me on any given day, at any time, as a means of softening up that voice inside of me that can unfortunately default into a mode of harsh criticism and negativity toward myself, the world, my life, and people in my life. The tone of each meditation is like a gentle voice nudging me to soften up, be open minded, see things from a different angle, and trust where life is taking me. I keep this book sort of floating around my house like a “crack open in case of emergency” thing– in the bathroom or next to my bed– where I can just grab it and flip open to the reading of the day when I find that little down time. Lots of times, if I am in a really bad place internally, I just leaf through and read at random until I feel soothed. It always, always helps me in some way or another. The voice that speaks out of this book is the voice that I want my own inner voice to become like, and through reading this book, like training wheels, I have made progress toward becoming a more nurturing and gentle person toward myself and toward the world. Melody Beattie, how can I thank you enough for all your great books?

Loving this book of daily meditations by Melody Beattie. It is a bit of a floppy paperback, so not sure how well it will hold up over time, but I take good care of my books, so I think it depends on how you handle it. The printing, spacing, font and layout are all nice and easy to read. I like that she gives different suggestions on how to use it, either by date or at random. I have been doing it by date, and then choose one at random after meditating on the first one. They are all fairly short, giving you a topic, a write up and a kind of mantra for meditating on. I find this helpful as I develop a daily meditation practice for the first time., and it is definitely aiding in my healing journey. So far, I’m enjoying it very much.

Good read but too much “God” for my taste.

This is a daily must read. It is beautifully written and so relevant. I love how each year as I re-read the daily passage, it resonates with me in a different way. This book has helped me so much. Love it!!

As someone who has been a voracious reader for more than 7 decades of the thousands of books I have read (and wrote reviews on) one of my favorite genres has been self-improvement quote and meditation types of books. This is why when I saw this 374-page soft cover book for a bargain price on Amazon I immediately purchased it.
This excellent and educational volume has a self-improvement quote along with a short essay to meditate by for every day (365) of the year. Though there is a lot of repeat advice; nevertheless, the advice is upbeat and positive providing the reader with inspiring and loving meditations.
The following is a very small sample of what you will find in this fantastic book: “Love yourself until it is real, the universe is abundant, find healing and magic within yourself, discover the power of meditation, cherish each moment, you are s perfect balance of Yin and Yang, find humor in it, value passion, let your creativity blossom, clear out the clutter, value each moment, and open your heart to Universal love.
This book has so many gems of advice that you will find yourself coming back to the ones most meaningful to you. If you love meditation, quote and self-help books, this is one you will want to check out. I loved it.
Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Zen Poetry Moments: Haiku and Senryu for special occasions).

This is a fun reference to open each day to help us on our journey. I don’t use it following the calendar even though there is an inspiration for each day of the year. I prefer to open it up randomly and let the spirits talk to me. A lovely book which would also make a great gift for anyone searching for something on the spiritual side.
