In 1933, Tomita Kaiji wrote a book about his experiences with Reiki, based on what he learned as a member of the Usui Reiki Ryōhō Gakkai. He had joined the Osaka branch in the mid-1920s, studying Usui’s methods under a teacher visiting from the Tokyo headquarters, likely Usui himself. After Usui’s death, Tomita taught Reiki to many students and founded a Reiki society called the Hands-on Therapy Association (Teate Ryōhōkai).
Tomita’s book is one of the best sources we have on how Usui Reiki Ryōhō was taught in the 1920s. This book provides an exciting account of the early practice of Reiki, insight into Mikao Usui’s teachings, and many useful stories of Reiki treatments and their sometimes miraculous results.
Until now, Tomita’s book has only been available in Japanese. With the collaboration of Dr. Justin B. Stein, translator Dylan Luers Toda, and Brian Brunius of Reiki Centers of America, the book has been painstakingly rendered in modern English.

It can’t seem to be downloaded on kindle e readers. Can only be read on mobile devices or computers. So return the Kindle version and received that the paperback version, and it is so good that I wanted to get it for my Japanese Reiki teacher who has difficulties with reading English. Ironically, I can’t get this text in post war Japanese language. What a great pity that a text describing experience with a Japanese healing art can’t be read by the Japanese people. Furthermore the experiences I’ve had with reiki practice is paralleled by the authors own experiences in 1933. It would be wonderful to be able to share this book with my Japanese Reiki teacher.
