This book is not at all what I expected it to be. I’ve been channeling on my own for some time and I was looking for something to help me improve. THIS IS NOT A CHANNELING HANDBOOK! I have studied several modalities and am aware of her cautions, I just wanted to improve and she gives only advice on what to be careful of when channeling.

This is a small book providing only a limited overview about channeling. A review of the history of channeling is undertaken starting with Biblical prophets. She makes the relevant observation that consistent channeling often results in a coherent body of teachings which is not necessarily in agreement with other bodies of teachings though, which therefore invokes the need for discrimination. This means deciding what is relevant for us without condemning what is not. She elaborates on the basic qualities of an aspiring channel, such as having wide knowledge, not having major personal problems, being able to apply a critical mind to the information transmitted and not submitting to the glamour of it or feeling special.
In conclusion, this is a valid but somewhat limited perspective on a vast topic.

I read other reviewers who complained that, in this book, Carla Ruekert didn’t explain how to channel. I disagree. With her extensive experience as a channel, I doubt there is anyone more aware of what is involved. She is abundantly clear in this book that the Universe is an amazing place, populated by beings who can be wonderful, loving, affirming, protective, etc, and also by those who can be tricksters, misleading, and of negative influence. A channel must be aware of this and know how to proceed in a safe, responsible, loving manner. One must be as careful, at the very least, as if one were going to the circus or some other place where one has no idea whom one might encounter. Carla Ruekert does a great job of clearly and completely discussing what it takes to channel in a safe, responsible manner. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and feel it should be an essential part of any channel’s library. I bought this book for a friend who is a channel, but I am going to buy another copy for myself.

Carla Rueckert was the “instrument” for the channeling of The Ra Material from the early 1980’s. If you are familiar with these series of books, or even if you are not, it’s an important channeled work that I would encourage anyone who is interested in this genre to peruse. That said, this book she authored is one that describes the process and her hand in receiving this information from the Ra contact, but does not share HOW to channel, as she states it can be fraught with “trickster” entities, who may have their own agendas. Please note, as a channeler myself, having received information through automatic writing and conscious channeling, I have dictated and verbalized knowledge from discarnate beings that is not the “best and highest”. This does not mean that it is all bad or tainted. First and foremost, channeled information is filtered through our personalities, our biases, and any strongly-held beliefs, also any unhealed aspects of us colors what we receive. This is also a gift that requires us to strengthen our discernment, meaning take what resonates with you and leave the rest. We are all human and not perfect, so there will always be some tidbit that perhaps doesn’t ring true or may be off. This is the essence of what Carla is trying to convey, IMHO, when she states you should have a mentor, or certainly someone more knowledgeable with you to interpret the channeling you receive. As you heal your shadow and become more radically accepting of the world and others, your channeling will improve and become more aligned with your purer intention of doing this work.

Das Buch ist sehr authentisch und verzichtet auf das übliche Jeder kanns mal eben selbst tun-Geschwafel der anderen esoterischen Seminarleiter. Es geht hier mehr um die Hintergründe und charakterlichen Hürden als um den Vorgang selbst. Sehr wichtig und sehr gut und ausführlich erörtert.
Wer jedoch weitere Werke derselben Autorin anschaffen will, der sei gewarnt: Sie scheinen wie von jemand anderem geschrieben (na sowas) und reichen dadurch leider rein gar nicht an dieses Buch hier heran. Mindestens zwei der anderen Bücher (die ich angelesen hatte) reihen sich leider nur in die anderen esoterischen Channelingbücher ein, die niemand braucht.

As some other people have pointed out, this is not a ‘how to’ type of channeling book, so the title is somewhat misleading; however, I believe there is information in this book that is still of upmost importance as it talks about the necessity of taking care of personal difficulties before opening yourself up as a channel to avoid unpleasant experiences. Despite the fact that the author has a more Christian viewpoint, and I am not a Christian, I still think that the precepts behind that are still worth considering.
There is some of this book that will not be as useful given that the author wrote the book in the 80s and life has moved on in some of the areas that she talks about. As long as the reader is able to take the information in the second half of the book and consider how the information could be converted to the internet age and current tax laws, that may also be of use.
Overall, the book is slim and an easy read. There are certain view points that make much more sense if the reader has read “The Law of One”–which I highly recommend–but in general the book makes sense and I find it to be a worth while addition to the library of anyone who is interested in channeling.
